The availability of broadband has recently expanded throughout Eastern Ontario and has the potential of reaching nearly all communities. Four different means are available: DSL, Cable, Wireless and Satellite.

DSL or ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) is provided by Bell Canada and many local Internet Service resellers. It arrives on the same copper wires or fibre used for telephone service, and requires only the installation of a special modem. DSL reach is limited to roughly 4.5 km of line length from the nearest switching gear, usually installed in the local telco building (Central Office or CO), or in a countryside cabinet.
The advantage of DSL is its overall reliability. Coming over the same wires as your telephone, it is unaffected by weather.
