The availability of broadband has recently expanded throughout Eastern Ontario and has the potential of reaching nearly all communities. Four different means are available: DSL, Cable, Wireless and Satellite.

Satellite internet is the best choice for those rural locations where wireless does not reach. Though the equipment and installation generally make satellite a more expensive option, the setup cost is less than building a free-standing wireless tower. Recent improvements mean that you can expect 1 Megaherz per second service, about double that a few years ago. Satellite installation is available from several local companies.
New satellite installations
New subscribers must purchase a two-way wireless radio and satellite dish, and pay for professional installation. Charges are consistent as they are set by the two providers, XplorNet and Galaxy Broadcast (HughesNet).
Reliability (99.9%): Weather such as heavy snow or rain will interfere with high-speed internet service. When this happens, you will not be able to access the server, but your email and data will remain intact until service is resumed.
