Online Services: "Cloud Computing" Tools
Remarkable as it may seem, you do not need to download anything to benefit from online business resources. For home-based businesses, being small is to your advantage. Some services are always free, some may have no charge (as an enticement) until you have grown in size.
For small entrepreneurs, a monthly fee usually applies for services located almost anywhere in the world (though usually in the U.S.A.), that can be enormously important such as nightly document backup when your office is closed.
Online Collaboration
- Google Docs & Spreadsheets - A free online service that lends itself to individual work or group work. Two or more people can collaborate on a word-processing document or spreadsheet. This is especially useful for two people who work in different places or while travelling. Files are stored on Google's massive servers.

- Base Camp - Online project management software that allows for many people to work on one or more projects together setting milestones, assigning tasks and much more. There are several account levels, with a free level that allows you to collaborate only on a single project.
- Yahoo! Groups - This free service allows you to create an online area to post messages, files as well as maintain a private e-mail list for distributing information.
- Create a PDF Online - An Adobe tool allows for quick creation of PDF files from many file formats. It's only good for five documents to try the service, after that, charges apply.
- DropSend - when collaborating, often files are sent back and forth. This service allows you to upload large files and e-mail only a link to your intended recipient.
- GIFWorks - an online image editing tool that is specifically geared towards animation in the GIF format
